This Equine Showjumping family photoshoot was commissioned as a Surprise gift for the childrens parents and grandparents. I wish I’d videoed this shoot as we had such fun photographing it. We used Tipperary Equestrian Centres Showjumping Indoor arena and I used my Studio lit ‘Signature Lighting’ emphasising the beautiful confirmation of their ponies and the gorgeous children. The children adore their ponies and were so excited during the shoot that I was capturing them with their life long friends.

This was an equine commission from Discover Ireland Dublin Horse Show of sisters Charolette and Sarah Jane with their beautiful horses at their home. The girls were fantastic to work with. We had glorious evening light. When I arrived the girls were wearing beautiful blue dresses, the opposite in the colour wheel to brown is blue. It was a great fun session for me and we even took a few family photos with the girls parents & brother as well.
The girls Mum helped behind the scenes at the session. You can imagine how much work goes into cleaning tack, clipping and washing horses for a photo session:)
I used my signature studio lighting to enhance the conformation of the horses

This family equine portrait was taken on the beautiful laneway of trees on their family farm in Fethard Co. Tipperary. This lovely couple I met at the
Dublin Horse Show/. On arriving the trees and light caught my eye. When deciding which way to photograph I always look at the light direction and then view from various angles. I love frames with in frames when taking photographs. It forces your eye to the brightest part of a photograph. I walked up and down the avenue to get the right light and placement. I was mesmerised by the trees and rustic Irish setting that evening. The winter light is a low angle and I used it as backlight. The studio lights worked as fills and to highlight the ponies coats and confirmation.
The twins were such great fun to photograph and their Dad had their ponies turned out so beautifully. It was photographed on their grandparents farm which had the most beautiful old trees which were cover in lichen (a sign of pure air). When the evening light hit the trees and ponies coats – it was picture perfect

Create a splash with a Ni Riain Photography Equine Portrait
This recent Equine Family portraits in Rush Co. Dublin was great fun. I arrived to perfect light with three delightful children and their beautiful ponies. As we drove to Rush Beach I saw the perfect light, they say the best landscape light is after rain and high wind all the dust particles are surpressed and the light is brilliant and clear. Getting this shot involved a few takes but cantering up the beach was a pure joy to the children and can be seen in the portrait.
Riders in the mist by Ni Riain Photography
They often say the portrait is behind you – (When you focus on the location in front, look behind you, the shot is often their not where you are looking). The children had to trot down to the beech to get to the location I was focused on the beautiful blue sky in front of me with Lambay Island. The light in this portrait reminded me instantly of Japanese Landscape 14th century, monochrome Art – with delicate interplay between light and mist,

Family portrait with Grandads Tack box
As I drove into the stables, the beautiful listed building with its layers of colour and beautiful architecture caught my eye. The minute I saw the Dune & grey ponies I felt the background with compliment and echo in the portrait. The Grandads vintage tack box added to the portrait.
